12u Lady Knights Maroon Open the Summer Season Winning 4 of 5…….

The 12u Lady Knights Maroon opened their summer season against the Smithtown Bulls on a windy Thursday (6/29) at Memorial Park. The Lady Knights had their ace, Gabby Amicizia, on the mound and she quickly disposed of the Bulls in the 1st. Gianna Pizzulli lead off the bottom of the 1st with an infield single and promptly stole 2nd and 3rd. Jess Sticco drove her home with a groundout and the Knights led 1-0. Gabby would trade zeros with the Bulls for the next 3 innings, striking out 3 and holding the Bulls hitless through 4. In the bottom of the 4th, like she did all spring, Gianna woke the Lady Knights’ bats up in a big way! After a leadoff single by Sofia Stampfli, Gianna lined an RBI triple to right center. Jessie Forneiro drove her in with an infield single. After Marissa Passantino lined a 3-0 base hit, Chloe Montanino and Grace Heim both walked. Daniella Popko laced a base hit to drive in a run and load the bases. Newcomer Natalia D’onofrio then unleashed the fury on a 2-0 pitch, smoking a line drive WAY over the left fielder’s head for a game-breaking grand slam! The Lady Knights scored 9 runs total in the 4th to walk off with a 10-0, 4 inning win. Gabby upped her record to 1-0 with the no-hitter.

On Thursday 7/6 the Lady Knights played their 1st of 3 games against their division rival Longwood Thunder at Memorial Park. After Longwood put up 1 run in the 1st on a wild pitch, the Lady Knights answered back with 6 of their own in the bottom of the frame. Sofia Stampfli lead off the game with a single to right. After Jessie Forneiro walked, Gianna Pizzulli drove them both home with an opposite field base hit. Marissa Passantino then drove home Gianna with a rocket single to center. Daniella Popko hit a long sac fly to left to drive home Marissa. Michelle Defina and Sofia followed with RBI walks. After striking out the last 3 hitters in the first, Lady Knights fireballer Chloe Montanino struck out the side in the 2nd. The Lady Knights mounted a consistent attack, scoring 3 in the 3rd, 2 in both the 4th and 5th and 3 in the 6th to close out the game with a 16-6 win. The Thunder tried to mount a comeback in the 5th but their efforts were snuffed out when Sarah Gunn made a running catch in right field with the bases loaded to end the threat. Chloe went the distance, allowing only 4 hits while striking out a whopping 15 batters! It was Chloe’s 1st win of her Lady Knights career, bringing the Lady Knights to 2-0 on the season. Chloe earned Player of the Game honors along with Brenna Cumming, who finished 1 for 2 with 3 RBI and 2 walks.

The Lady Knights were at Longwood High school for a double dip on Saturday 7/8. After jumping out to a 7-2 lead highlighted by an RBI double by Marissa Passantino and an RBI single by Grace Heim in the 1st and back to back 2 RBI hits by Jessie Forneiro and Gianna Pizzulli in the 2nd, the Lady Knights allowed 9 runs (3 earned) in the bottom of the 2nd. Although the Lady Knights did their best to fight back as Jessie Forneiro tripled in a run in the 5th and Gianna Pizzulli singled in 2 in the 7th, the deficit was to large to overcome and the Lady Knights fell 17-11.

In game 2, the Lady Knights once again allowed 3 unearned runs to score in the 1st inning, but quickly answered back with 3 of their own highlighted by a 2 run single by Gianna Pizzulli. Marissa Passantino took control on the mound for the Lady Knights, going 7 innings, allowing 8 hits, 3 earned runs and 2 strikeouts while making multiple eye popping plays on balls hit up the middle. The Lady Knights went on to score 3 in the 2nd on a Jessie Forneiro 2 RBI single, 3 in the 5th on a 2 RBI single by Marissa Passantino and 6 in the 6th on a Chloe Montanino bases clearing double to put the game out of reach.

Marissa earned Player of the Game honors with the sparkling outing as did Jessie Forneiro who went 5-7 with 5 runs, 5 RBI’s, 2 walks and 2 triples in the double header while playing flawless shortstop in both games.

On Sunday 7/9, both 12u Lady Knights teams (Maroon/White) and the 10u team went to Brookville and enjoyed an amazing softball clinic hosted by the LIU Post Pioneers softball team at their complex.

On Wednesday 7/19, the 12u Lady Knights – Maroon hosted the Long Island Outlaws at Memorial 17. Starting pitcher Maddie Anderson set the tone by striking out the side in the 1st on 12 pitches. The Lady Knights got on the board with 2 runs in the 1st with their legs. Sofia Stampfli lead off the game with a walk and stole 2nd, 3rd and came home on a wild pitch. Jess Sticco followed suit giving the Lady Knights a 2-0 lead. The Outlaws put up 3 runs in the 2nd on 2 walks and a hit by pitch, but the Lady Knights answered back with 5 of their own, highlighted by a bases loaded double by Jessie Forneiro that cleared the bases and gave the Lady Knights a 7-3 lead. Maddie cruised through the 3rd with 2 more K’s followed by an 8 run explosion by the Lady Knights. Chloe Montanino lead off with a single followed by an RBI double by Grace Heim. After back to back walks to Natalia D’onofrio and Daniella Popko, Maddie helped herself with an RBI single followed by a 2 RBI double by Sofia Stampfli, an RBI single by Jessie and a 2 RBI single by Jessica Sticco. Chloe doubled for her 2nd hit of the inning but was stranded at 3B. Maddie closed out the game with 2 more K’s in the 4th and the Lady Knights took the game 15-3 for their 4th win in 5 games. Maddie Anderson took home Player of the Game honors with the complete game, giving up 1 hit and striking out 8 in 4 innings.

The Lady Knights will look to continue their winning ways with 9 games over the next 2 weeks.
