Lady Knights flex their muscles, taking a double dip from the Islip Owls to up their record to 3-1.

The12u KPY Lady Knights defended their home turf on a beautiful Sunday at Memorial Park after splitting their 1st 2 games at Brentwood. In game 1, the Lady Knights once again jumped out quickly with 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Madison Anderson (2-3, rbi, run) lead off with an infield single and Jessica Forneiro (2-2, 2b, 3b, rbi, 3 runs) promptly doubled her home. After a Jess Sticco walk, Marissa Passantino (2-3, 2rbi, run) stayed piping hot, doubling in 2 runs. After a Jessica Sommo RBI ground out, Kiki Bass doubled and later scored on an RBI walk by Sarah Gunn (who was once again solid behind the dish, “Gunning” down a runner at 3b thanks to an excellent tag by Gianna Pizzulli).

In the 2nd inning, Maddie once again lead off with a single, Jessica Forneiro walked, Jessica Sticco had an RBI groundout and Gianna Pizzulli stroked an RBI single up the middle to give the Lady Knights a 7-1 lead. The Lady Knights delivered their knockout blow in the bottom of the 3rd with 4 more runs highlighted by back to back triples by Jessie Forneiro and Jess Sticco and a scorching single by Marissa Passantino to give the Lady Knights a 11-1 lead.

On the mound, Gabby Amicizia (pronounced “Ama-cheat-zia”) made her season debut and the Lady Knight’s Ace did not disappoint. Gabby pitched 4 innings, giving up 2 hits, 1 run, walking only 1 while striking out 8, earning herself player of the game honors.

After coming out flat in game 2 last week, the Lady Knights did not make the same mistake twice. After scratching across 1 in the 1st on a Marissa Passantino single, the Lady Knights scored 8 times in the 2nd and 6 times in the 3rd to take a 15-0 lead. Gianna Pizzulli was 2-3 with a double and 2 rbi. Brenna Cumming hit a booming 2 rbi double over the LF’s head. Payton Ciofrone was 1-2 with a walk and Ava Stramara reached base all 3 times up. Tiffany Brojer walked twice and was excellent behind the plate. Michelle Defina was 1-3 and scored twice.

Daniella Popko upped her record to 2-0 with another workmanlike performance, going 4 innings, giving up 2 hits, while only walking 1 batter and striking out 4. Brenna & Ava shared player of the game honors.

The Lady Knights will look to continue their winning ways on Sunday May 7th with a 9am double header at Sachem North HS vs the Diamonds.
