Lady Knights Winning Streak hits 7……

Lady Knights played 2 single games this past weekend, one Saturday and one Sunday. The first game was against their 2nd place rivals, the Brentwood Panthers. The Panthers were the home team despite the game being on the Lady Knight’s home turf (San Remo). Staying in character, the Lady Knights jumped out with 10 runs in the top of the 1st inning with the big blast coming off the bat of Gianna Pizzulli (2 rbi double). Helping her own cause, starting pitcher Gabby Amicizia tripled in Daniella Popko in the 2nd inning with a laser beam down the left field line. That’s all the support Gabby would need as she held the Panthers to 4 runs on 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 8 in the complete game victory. The win upped Gabby’s record to 4-0. Payton Ciofrone grabbed Player of the Game honors, coming off the bench with a walk and a base hit.

On Sunday, the Lady Knights found themselves in the same scenario; visitor on home turf, squaring off with the Sachem Diamonds. As usual, the Lady Knights jumped out quickly with 5 runs in the top of the 1st, capped off by a 2 run single by Kiki Bass after 4 consecutive hits by Gianna Pizzulli, Jessie Forneiro, Jessica Sticco and Marissa Passantino. The Lady Knights would score 3 more in the 3rd as Jessica Sticco hit the team’s 2nd home run of the season to lead off the inning, splitting the LF & CF with a screaming liner followed by rbi singles by Jessica Sommo & Kiki Bass later in the inning. In the 4th, Gianna Pizzulli tripled in Brenna Cumming, who had doubled earlier in the inning and was later driven in by a Jess Sticco single.

The Diamonds hung around with 4 runs in the 3rd and 2 in the fifth, but the Lady Knights just kept putting on the pressure with 5 more runs in the 5th and a 7 run knockout blow in the 6th, cruising to a 22-6 victory. Gianna Pizzulli, hitting in the leadoff spot for the first time this season, was 5-5 with a 2b, 3b, 3 runs and 3 rbi. Jessica Sticco was 3-4 with a HR, bunt single, 3 runs and 3rbi. Sarah Gunn reached base all 4 times up and scored each time, also executing a perfect bunt single. Kiki Bass was 3-3 with 3 runs and 4rbi. Brenna Cumming finished 4-4 with a 2b, 2 runs and 3rbi. Brenna & Jess Sticco shared Player of the Game honors. Daniella Popko upped her record to 3-0 with the complete game victory.

The Lady Knights now sit at 8-1 with the 2 wins. The team will be busy next weekend with double headers on Saturday at Islip Owls and Sunday at Memorial 17 vs Brentwood.
